Project Description

Beverly Silva

How long have you lived in the bay area?

I was born and raised in the San Jose area.  I moved away for about 7 years but ended up back here.

What is your fondest childhood memory?

My fondest childhood memory is going on various trips with my grandparents.  I was fortunate enough to have both sets of grandparents in my life while growing up.

What subject(s) did you study at College?

I was a Sociology major with a focus in criminal justice.

What was your first job?

My first job was working at the YMCA in their Youth Sports and Camps divisions.

Who has been the most influential person to you in your career?

My first manager/mentor really taught me the importance of taking initiative and learning as much as I can.  I think that has helped me be successful in every aspect of my career.

How has your career created value in your life?

Starting my career in banking, I really learned early on how easily it was to end up in financial trouble.  I was able to see clients who were financially responsible vs those who were not.  The real life examples were eye opening making me think twice about “living beyond my means”.

What do you consider to be the most significant world event that has occurred during your lifetime?

I have to say the invention of the internet has considerably changed our lives.  While it has its downfalls, information has never been so accessible to the masses.  We are able to connect with people all over the world, stay up on current events, do your shopping and end those arguments at the dinner table so much faster!

What is your most memorable travel experience?

My most memorable travel experience was going to Italy.  From the Colosseum in Rome, to the Vatican and even the rainy day in Venice.  I would absolutely go back!

What is the funniest thing that’s ever happened to you?

While it’s not something that happened to me, I would have to say my husband is the funniest thing.  He keeps me laughing all day, every day.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

Definitely my daughter.  Watching her grow into this amazing human being makes me so proud.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I like to spend time with the family, we get so little time together.  If it isn’t family time then I enjoy running and hiking.  And when I really feel like indulging, a spa day.

If you could possess one super-human power, what would it be?

I would love to be able to see the future.
